NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES – RACE 31 OF 33 – TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Back in the Saddle Again: Martin, a Galliano, Louisiana native, brings the momentum from his NNS debut in Kansas to Texas Motor Speedway. After a promising qualifying effort placed him 16th on his first grid, an unfortunate late-race incident resulted in a 25th place finish. This week, the only current Louisiana driver in any of NASCAR’s elite three series hopes to continue to build track skills; but also have a learning experience going into his bid for NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2013.
Cajun Cookin’ Meets Cowboy Country: This weekend, Martin brings a “Cajun Cookoff” to the heat of Texas Motor Speedway. Proud of his bayou roots, several tailgating amateur chefs will try their hands as the “Gumbo Champion” at the No. 19 hauler Friday. Media and guests will be treated to three types of authentic Louisiana seasoned gumbo, all with a distinct style and taste. Who will win the crown? Follow along on Twitter and Facebook!
Things That Make You Go…BOOM? This week, Hal Martin Racing welcomes a new product sponsor to the fold: KoolBoom portable boomboxes.KoolBoom.com was founded upon one main principle: provide the best sounding portable boombox cooler, while still maintaining the main purpose is as a cooler. KoolBoom Koolers are made to use and endure in the great outdoors. While they are not made to be submerged in water, they are made of high quality marine components which make them UV resistant, splash proof and ready for the harshest environments any NASCAR fans are ready to throw at them. For more information about ordering, visit www.KoolBoom.com.
Restoring the Louisiana Coastline Matches Hurricane Sandy Restoration: RestoreOrRetreat.org raises awareness for the erosion crisis along the Louisiana coastline – one of the busiest shipping & oil drilling hubs in the USA – & will be Martin’s charitable focus in NASCAR. His “Waterway Ridealong” this race is the Terrebonne Basin. Thursday through Saturday, Hal Martin Racing will donate $1 for Twitter retweets of specific coastline-related tweets & this precious ecosystem – with the use of hashtag #SaveLACoast. Restoration issues are at the forefront of conversation this week, as Hurricane Sandy ravaged the east and northeast coasts of the country.
Chassis History: The American Custom Yachts team from TriStar Motorsports has prepared chassis No. 108 for competition at Texas Motor Speedway. This chassis was ast used at Kentucky Speedway by TriStar Motorsports in 2012.
Hal Martin on Texas Motor Speedway
How do you feel after your debut at Kansas in the Nationwide Series?
“I feel much more confident heading into this weekend in Texas – the ‘first-time jitters’ are gone and over. I am more relaxed and calm going into the weekend. I felt much more comfortable behind the wheel after making my first laps on track in Kansas, so it’s all a learning curve.”
What have you done to prepare for Texas Motor Speedway?
“I have been prepping for Texas by studying past NASCAR Nationwide Series races and taking mental notes. It’s all about the lines and race strategy here, and what was used in the past few years. There have been some spectacular moves at the end, and I want to make sure that we’re positioned well to complete our goals. Like I said earlier in my debut, I’m a Rookie. I’m trying to stay out of trouble and learn.”
We hear you cook a “mean” gumbo. Any secret ingredients you want to share?
“I could tell you the secret ingredients, but if I do, there might be some Southern Louisiana “Bayou Voodoo” put on me, so I’ll have to keep the secrets to myself. We will be having a gumbo cook-off in Texas, and that will be a lot of fun for the weekend with some celebrity judges. Three different types of gumbo being served, so if you’re a fan in the infield, come see us. We’ll treat you right with some hometown Cajun cooking!”
What has the reaction been from your hometown/friends in Louisiana, seeing you on the “big screen?”
My fans, friends, and family from back at home have been extremely excited about my debut into the NASCAR Nationwide Series. I have been receiving calls, text messages, emails, facebook messages, tweets, you name it…The support has been extremely gratifying and makes me more and more proud of my hometown supporters each and every day.
