Phoenix International Raceway Advance | Lucas Oil 150

Breaking in Pavement: The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitors will head to Phoenix International Raceway this Friday to compete on the one-mile oval for the first time since the track has been repaved. In the midst of a tight points race for the championship title, Timothy Peters enters the Lucas Oil 150 race weekend 25 markers out of the driver’s points lead in third position. Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team know that the new pavement will present a challenge to all of the competitors, including themselves, but have a good strategy laid out to help the transition.

“When you go somewhere that has new pavement, you just try to trust it and have all the faith in the grip. We always have a pretty good handle on that so we’ll just see what happens. It’s really how quickly we can get up to and and focus on speed; if we can do that, I think we’ll be pretty good,” Peters said.

Though Peters’ best finish prior to the repaving at Phoenix was a 12th place effort in 2011, he will be piloting one of his most trusted chassis and is confident he and his Red Horse Racing team will be able to hit on a good setup and have a good run.

“I think Phoenix is going to be a big challenge for all of us because of the new pavement and no one in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has been on it, so any advantage any one person had before is erased in my book. We’ll just keep plugging on away, hopefully we’ll be one of the ones that hits on it. I know we will,” Peters concluded.

Appearing in Phoenix: Timothy Peters and Red Horse Racing teammate Parker Kligerman will be making a special guest appearance at the Toyota Racing Pit Pass display on Friday, November 9 at 1:00 PM. The two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship contenders will interact with fans and sign autographs at the display located in the vendor midway at Phoenix International Raceway.

Previous Race Recap: Traveling to Texas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series WinStar World Casino 350 with a brand new Toyota Tundra chassis in tow, the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team and driver Timothy Peters were prepared to battle in race number 20 of the 2012 season. After a 14th place qualifying effort, Peters and his team fought a tight handling condition for most of the evening. Patience during the long runs and fast work on pit road helped Peters move forward to claim a 10th place finish.

Chassis History: Crew chief Butch Hylton and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing crew have prepared chassis number 093 for this weekend’s competition at Phoenix. This particular Toyota Tundra has visited victory lane twice this season with Timothy Peters at Iowa and Bristol and has been a stout performer in each of its five previous starts in 2012.

What is your outlook heading into the final two races of 2012?

“The year for us has been phenomenal so far no matter what the outcome, and I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish as a team. But with that said, we’re not going down without a fight. Phoenix is going to be a challenge for us and so will Homestead; two very unique tracks that will put us all to the test. We’ll be there at the end and I think this championship is going to be determined on the last lap, last corner coming to the checkers. From here on out we’ll race aggressive and we’re going for wins.”
