MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY GIVES RACE FANS THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THEIR PICTURES TAKEN WITH THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP TROPHY

image007(TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 28, 2013) The Sprint Cup trophy is the most coveted and prestigious award in North American motorsports. It will make its Canadian debut in the Michigan International Speedway booth during the Canadian Motorsports Expo powered by Inside Track News.

The show takes place February 8-10 at Toronto’s International Centre. MIS Track President Roger Curtis will also be in attendance at the CME, and is looking forward to connecting with Canadian racing fans.

“It’s been fun taking the trophy around to display for fans to see,” said Curtis. “I’m looking forward to bringing the trophy to Canada and talking with the fans at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Each year thousands of fans come to Michigan International Speedway, from Canada, to watch the races and this is our way to bring NASCAR to Canada.”

This past November, Michigan native Brad Keselowski was presented the Sprint Cup trophy following the NASCAR season finale in Florida. His achievement permanently added his name to the list of NASCAR’s legendary champions.

“It was fun watching a Michigan native in Brad Keselowski win the 2012 NASCAR Championship,” continued Curtis. “I know how much it meant to him and his entire team. Seeing Roger Penske and Keselowski win this championship transcends sports and reflects on the pride we have in seeing the results of Michigan-style dedication, passion and hard work.”

The sterling silver trophy, which stands 24 inches (61 cm) tall and weighs in at 27 pounds (12 kg) was designed by artist Bruce Newman and created by legendary silversmiths Tiffany & Company. The trophy that will be on display at the Canadian Motorsports Expo travels around the country as part of the Sprint Experience and is one of three produced for NASCAR. The other two trophies remain on permanent display at Daytona and in NASCAR’s New York offices.

Fans at this year’s Canadian Motorsport Expo will be encouraged to have their photographs taken with the Sprint Cup trophy and will have the opportunity to speak with the man who made this opportunity possible, MIS Track President Roger Curtis.

“When we heard that Michigan International Speedway would be coming to the CME, we were very excited,” said show co-promoter David Weber. “And then when they told us that they were bringing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Trophy and Track President Roger Curtis, it blew us away. Roger Curtis is doing great things at MIS and we’re honoured to have him and members of his team at the show. And the NASCAR Sprint Cup trophy is something that racing fans can only usually see on TV. Being able to see it up close and have a picture taken with it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for visitors to the MIS booth.”
