Fresh off of last week’s strong outing in Texas, Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) heads to Kansas Speedway where the team will look for its fifth Sprint Cup victory at the 1.5-mile track.
RFR at Kansas
Roush Fenway has made 62 Sprint Cup starts at Kansas Speedway, winning four times and collecting 18 top-five and 31 top-10 finishes.
Winning at Kansas
RFR swept both the NNS and Cup races at Kansas last fall, with Ricky Stenhouse becoming the ninth RFR driver to win at the track via his NNS victory. Mark Martin won Roush Fenway’s first Cup race at Kansas in 2005 and Greg Biffle bested the 1.5-mile track in 2007 and 2010. RFR’s first win at Kansas came in 2002 via Jeff Burton in the Nationwide Series. Three drivers (Jon Wood, 2003), (Carl Edwards, 2004) and (Erik Darnell, 2007) have won in the NASCAR Truck Series for RFR.
Mr. Kansas
With his pair of wins at Kansas, Greg Biffle is Roush Fenway’s most successful driver at the mile and a half oval. In addition to his two wins there, Biffle has posted one pole, led a total of 346 laps and has an average finish of 9.5 at Kansas. His driver rating of 113.0 is second best at the track and he has completed a series-high 2,354 laps at Kansas.
Closing in on 900
Roush Fenway needs to lead only 19 laps this weekend at Kansas to hit the 900 mark in laps led in Sprint Cup action at the track. In fact, Roush Fenway entries have led in the Sprint Cup Series at Kansas in 28 of 62 entries. RFR has led a total of 1,463 laps in NASCAR action at Kansas, including 353 in the NNS Series and 229 in the Truck Series. RFR led 79 laps there last fall en route to its ninth victory.
Hometown Hero
Carl Edwards will take to his ‘home’ track of Kansas Speedway this weekend. Edwards hails from Colombia, Mo.; located 140 miles from the track. Edwards has four top-five and eight top-10 finishes at his ‘home’ track, where he has an average finish of 10.8 and a runner-up finish in 2008.
Pointing Up
On the strength of strong top-five finishes at Texas, Roush Fenway’s Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards move into this weekend’s race sitting fourth and fifth in the Sprint Cup point standings. Edwards has posted top-five finishes in four of the seven races in 2013, while Biffle has been top-10 in four of the seven.
