WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonalds Team

Kansas Recap: From the drop of the green flag in the STP 400, Jamie McMurray reported that his McDonald’s Chevy SS was loose. The No. 1 team made several changes during pit stops within the first 100 laps to work on handling.  The team and driver would dig deep to overcome adversity.  Following a late caution, crew chief Bono Manion made the call for a two-tire stop to gain track-position.  The decision would pay off with McMurray’s third top-10 finish of the 2013 season.

McMurray at Richmond: In 20 previous starts at Richmond International Raceway (RIR), McMurray has led 19 laps, earning three top-10 finishes.  He has an average starting and finishing position of 24.3 and 23.2, respectively.  McMurray’s best start of second came in the fall of 2011 and his best finish of seventh came in the spring of 2009.  McMurray has completed 7,505 of 8,003 (93.8%) laps of competition at RIR.

Starting Out Strong:  Jamie McMurray, who will make is 375 career NSCS start on Saturday, is off to his best start (through the first eight races of the season), since his “career year” in 2010 when he won three races, including the season-opening Daytona 500.  McMurray’s average finishing position in the first eight races has improved from 21.6 (2010), 21.7 (2011), 20.3 (2012) to 15.8 this season.

Golden Arches: If you’re looking to grab some dinner on the way to the track there are several McDonald’s restaurants located within five miles of Richmond International Raceway, including one directly across from the main entrance at 607 E. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA  23222.  Stop in and try the new Premium McWrap®.

Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Depend Team

Kansas Rewind: Juan Pablo Montoya made his 225th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start over the weekend at Kansas Speedway. The No. 42 Target Chevy SS lined-up in the 19th-position and quickly moved up into the top-10 in the opening laps. An unfortunate incident on pit road just past halfway would alter the fate of the 42 team and Montoya wound up crossing the finish line in the 27th position.

Two Athletes Joining Forces:  Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware, will be at RIR this weekend to help Montoya promote The Depend Great American Try On campaign. Ware is currently competing against Wes Walker in the Depend Players Challenge – an online competition in which the duo rally friends and fans to vote and support in order to win a $50,000 donation in their name to the V Foundation.(www.jimmyv.org).

Montoya in Richmond: Montoya has 12 starts at RIR which include one pole (spring 2011) and three top-10 finishes. He has led 28 laps and his best finish was in May of 2010 when he finished sixth. Montoya’s average start at Richmond is 14.8 with an average finish of 20.6.

99 Wins and Counting …: The Target Racing program, which began with Target and Chip Ganassi Racing in 1990, is just one win shy of the 100-win plateau. The first win for the program came in 1994 with Michael Andretti’s Indy car victory at Surfers Paradise, Australia when the team was just a two-car open wheel program. The partnership between Target and Chip Ganassi Racing is one of the longest consecutive team partnerships in motor racing history.

Hit the Bullseye:  Need something in a pinch?  No need to worry – Target has all of the essentials and more.  Target is just six miles from Richmond International Raceway, located at 7235 Bell Creek Road, Mechanicsville, VA.  Call ahead and make sure they have what you need at 804-559-5802.

ONE TEAM, SIX CARS, THREE SERIES

Chip Ganassi has been a fixture in the auto racing industry for over 25 years and is considered one of the most successful as well as innovative owners the sport has anywhere in the world.  Today his teams include three cars in the IZOD IndyCar Series, two cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and one Daytona Prototype in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.  Overall his teams have 15 championships and over 150 victories, including four Indianapolis 500s, a Daytona 500, a Brickyard 400 and five Rolex 24 At Daytonas.  Ganassi boasts state-of-the-art race shop facilities in Indianapolis and Brownsburg, Ind. and Concord, N.C., with a corporate office in Pittsburgh, Penn.
