The High Banks…The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) will make its second trip of the 2013 season to Bristol, Tenn. and the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) Friday night for the Food City 250. Nelson Piquet Jr. will make his third career NNS start at BMS. He finished 34th at the first race of the season held at the 0.533-mile track after an accident left him and the No. 30 team unable to finish the race.

New Crew Chief…Piquet Jr. will have a new crew chief starting this weekend at BMS, as veteran crew chief Pat Tryson will take over calling the shots for the No. 30 team. Tryson is no stranger to success at the Tennessee short track, having one win, three top five and seven top 10s in 30 starts at the 0.533-mile oval.

This Week’s Camaro…The No. 30 WORX team will have chassis TSM-335 for Friday night’s race at BMS. TSM- 335 has been used five times this season, most recently at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where Piquet Jr. brought it home to a 12th-place finish.

Mid-Ohio Recap…The NNS made its third and final road-course stop of the 2013 season last weekend at the famed 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200. Piquet Jr. and his No. 30 WORX Yard Tools team looked to build on their top-10 effort from two weeks ago at Watkins Glen during the 90-lap event. Piquet Jr. and his Turner Scott Motorsports team started the weekend by earning their best starting spot of the season, qualifying fifth at the road course. After staying in the top 10 most of the afternoon, Piquet Jr. and the No. 30 WORX Yard Tools team were credited with a 27th-place finish after running out of gas during the green/white/checkered finish.

Yard Tools…Piquet Jr. will again display the WORX Yard Tools colors on the No. 30 this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Established in 1994, WORX Yard Tools USA, based in Charlotte, N.C., is one of the fastest growing companies serving the global power equipment market today. A diversified manufacturer and marketer of a complete range of electric-powered lawn and garden equipment and related products, WORX has over 4000 employees worldwide. Nelson Piquet Jr. on his return to Bristol:

“I am looking forward to getting back on the track and racing under the lights this Friday night at Bristol. The Bristol night race is such a cool experience and one of the races that we all look forward to every year. I am excited to start working with Pat Tryson this weekend.  He has a lot of experience at Bristol, so hopefully we can take that experience and turn it into a good finish for our WORX Yard tools Chevy.”

Concrete Bowl…The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) heads to its second and final race of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) this Friday night for the Food City 250. Allgaier is a former race winner at BMS (spring 2010) and will be making his 10th career start at the 0.533-mile concrete oval. In this year’s spring race, Allgaier won the Coors Light Pole Award and led 62 laps before finishing the 300-lap race in the eighth position.

This Week’s Camaro…This weekend the No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet team will utilize chassis TSM-330. TSM-330 has raced three times this season: Auto Club Speedway, Darlington Raceway and Kentucky Speedway.

Happy Birthday…Evelyn Brandt Thomas, co-founder of BRANDT and aunt of current President and CEO Rick Brandt, will be celebrating her 90th birthday, and hopefully a win by the No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet Camaro, this weekend at BMS.

Recapping Mid-Ohio…The NNS made its maiden voyage to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the inaugural Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200. Track activity began on Thursday with a day of testing for the NNS. On Friday, Allgaier participated in both practice sessions and completed a total of 51 laps. Allgaier went out in group six out of eight for road-course qualifying, and he earned the 15th-starting position with a lap time of 85.629 seconds. After leading two laps and completing all 90 laps, plus the additional laps for the green/white/checkered finish, Allgaier brought his No. 31 AccuDoc Solutions/Nationwide Children’s Hospital Chevrolet Camaro home in the eighth position for Turner Scott Motorsports.

Crew chief Scott Zipadelli on Bristol Motor Speedway:

“Bristol [Motor Speedway] is a great track. The Friday night race is always fun for the fans to watch, and Bristol is just a special race track in general. We won the pole there earlier this season, so we are hoping to repeat that again. It’s such a tough track, and we will need to start up front and stay up there because it’s really easy to get a lap down. Overall, we just can’t make mistakes and if we are near the front at the end, we will have a shot at bringing home the trophy.”

Justin Allgaier on Bristol Motor Speedway:

“I’m excited to get back to Bristol [Motor Speedway]. I’ve won there before and really enjoy driving the track. We won the pole there earlier this year and it would be great to repeat that again. We finished eighth last time and I think we would have had a better finish if I didn’t speed on pit road. Overall, I’m looking forward to a great night of racing and seeing all of the fans in the stands.”

Kyle Larson
No. 32 Cottonelle Chevrolet Camaro

August 23, 2013

Back to Bristol…The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) returns to Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) for the second and final time this season on Friday, August 23 for the Food City 250. Kyle Larson will be making his second start at the famed 0.533-mile track after finishing second to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular Kyle Busch earlier this season.

The Countdown Is On…Larson will be showcased on NASCAR Countdown prior to the start of Friday night’s Food City 250 on ESPN. The feature will focus on Larson’s love of racing, highlighting the four different cars he raced at three tracks over the course of five days earlier this month. Between the NNS races at Iowa Speedway and Watkins Glen, Larson also competed in the Knoxville Nationals and at Southern Iowa Speedway with ESPN following him to catch all the action.

Welcome Back Cottonelle…Larson’s No. 32 Camaro will again sport the Cottonelle colors this weekend at BMS. In his two previous starts with the Kimberly-Clark brand on board, Larson brought home two top 10s, finishing second at Bristol in the spring and seventh at Road America in June.

This Week’s Camaro…Crew chief Trent Owens and the No. 32 Cottonelle team have prepared chassis TSM-323 for use in Friday night’s race at BMS. This particular chassis has been used five times this season by Larson and his Turner Scott Motorsports team, earning a top finish of second (Bristol, March) and an average finish of 8.4.

Watch and Listen…The Food City 250 will be broadcast on ESPN, with coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT. Larson will be featured as the in-race reporter for the 250-lap event. You can also listen to the race live by tuning in to PRN Radio or SiriusXM Satellite Radio, channel 90.

Previous Race Recap…Despite having no road-course experience prior to this season, Larson visited Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 looking for a solid finish in his No. 32 McDonald’s Chevrolet Camaro. After doing well in Thursday’s test sessions and finishing 12th and seventh in Friday’s two practice sessions, Larson earned his best qualifying effort of the season, starting the 90-lap race from the fourth position. An incident on lap one left Larson three laps down, but the rookie got back onto the lead lap and worked his way up to the top five before a wild last lap left him with a 14th-place finish.

Kyle Larson on Returning to Bristol

“I am really excited to get back to Bristol this weekend. My Turner Scott Motorsports team and I have had some tough luck the past few weeks, and I’m ready to put it behind us. We ran really well here during the race back in the spring, but we didn’t practice very well, so I hope this time we can be fast right off the truck. Bristol can bite you pretty fast, but it’s also a really fun track, so I am looking forward to Friday night.”
