Concord, NC (February 5, 2014) – Female race car driver and highly recognized environmental activist Leilani Münter announced today her partnership with Venturini Motorsports for the upcoming ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
Leilani Münter, coined the “Carbon Free Girl,” will drive VMS’s No. 55 Go 100% Renewable Toyota in next week’s highly anticipated ARCA Racing Series season opener.
Leilani’s ‘Go 100% Renewable’ themed race car is a joint sponsorship effort between Lighting Science Group and ZeroBase™, two of the companies leading the development of cutting edge technologies within the Renewable Energy space.
Why talk about renewable energy at Daytona? Leilani, who has combined two of her biggest passions, racing and the environment, gets asked this question regularly.
“The racetrack is one of the last places people would expect us to discuss renewable energy, and that is exactly why it’s where we need to be,” said Münter. “It’s time people start hearing about renewable energy solutions that save you money while protecting the environment. It’s an honor to feature Lighting Science Group and ZeroBase on my Go 100% Renewable car for ARCA’s season kick-off at Daytona.”
Lighting Science Group has been a leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of LED lighting for over 10 years. LED lights offer consumers an easy way to save hundreds of dollars a year on electricity bills while also eliminating the negative environmental impact of Mercury. Mercury, used in many of the compact florescent lights sold today, is hazardous to the environment. The trace amount of Mercury released by just one cracked CFL is enough to contaminate 6,000 gallons of water!
“Lighting Science offers a responsible solution to consumers looking to save money while not sacrificing light quality or the environment,” said Sean Tegart, Vice President of Lighting Science Group. “We are proud to support Leilani to increase the awareness of practical renewable energy solutions including LED lighting.”
ZeroBase™, a veteran of hybrid energy solutions, designs and builds mobile, adaptable microgrid systems that provide our military forces overseas with consistent power supplies. In recent years, one in six fuel convoys have been attacked in Afghanistan. ZeroBase™ aims to reduce military fuel consumption, thereby reducing the number of vulnerable convoys and possible casualties from attacks. Named best -in -class by the United States Army and the Department of Defense, ZeroBase’s™ products reduce generator fuel consumption by more than 50% while operating safely and reliably in the harshest of environments.
“Reducing the global reliance on fossil fuel is the heart of ZeroBase’s mission and a core element of Leilani Munter’s passion,” stated Jaron Rothkop, President & CTO of ZeroBase™. “We admire Leilani’s dedication to this cause, and are proud to partner with her at Daytona so that we may bring the renewable energy discussion to an exciting new audience.”
By combining two of her biggest passions, racing and the environment, Leilani has become an uncommon messenger with the unique combination of race car driver and environmental activist. A native of Rochester, Minnesota Leilani received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from University of California San Diego. Utilizing racing as her platform Leilani has been able to use her voice within the racing community to raise awareness of many environmental issues plaguing our society today.
With years of dedication to environmental issues, Leilani has become a recognized leader in the environmental community: Discovery’s Planet Green named her the #1 eco athlete in the world; Glamour Magazine called her “An Eco Hero;” ELLE Magazine awarded her their Genius Award; and Sports Illustrated named her one of the top ten female race car drivers in the world.
Since 2007 Leilani has been adopting an acre of rainforest for every race she runs to offset the carbon footprint of her race car. Away from the track, she drives an electric Tesla Model S that she charges with solar panels at her home.
Driving for Venturini Motorsports at Daytona Leilani will join teammates John Wes Townley No.15, Justin Boston No.25, and Mark Thompson No.66.
In preparation for ARCA’s crown jewel Leilani posted the sixth quickest lap with a speed of 183.303 mph during December’s open test/practice session at Daytona. In all, 78 drivers posted lap times during the pre-holiday 3-day test at the beach.
Leilani will kick-off the ’14 racing season with her powerful message during ARCA’s 62nd season opener which airs live on FOX SPORTS 1 Saturday, February 15th at 4:00 p.m. EST.
