MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 14, 2014) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Michael Annett will take part in his first All-Star Race weekend, taking to the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night for the Sprint Showdown. The top two finishers in the race will advance to Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race.
Annett’s crew chief on the No. 7 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS, Kevin “Bono” Manion, was victorious in the Showdown as the crew chief for Jamie McMurray last year. In 2012, McMurray and Manion finished third in the Showdown, one spot shy of a transfer position. Manion also scored a Showdown win in 2007 with driver Martin Truex.
Charlotte was the scene of Annett’s return from a sternum injury last year in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition. He finished 17th after starting 33rd in the Memorial Day weekend race. In two of his last three Nationwide Series starts at Charlotte, he finished 10th.
The Sprint Showdown airs live on Friday night, May 16 at 7 pm Eastern on FOX Sports 1.
MICHAEL ANNETT QUOTE:
“Growing up, I always watched the All-Star Race. To finally have the chance to participate in All-Star weekend is really cool. Friday’s race will allow us an opportunity to get on the track and have some fun while learning some things for next week’s 600.”
