Gilliland: Pocono as Easy as 3, 2, 1

Driver Says Speed Comes by ‘Working Backwards’

STATESVILLE, JUNE 3, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Long John Silver’s Ford, comments on racing at Pocono Raceway:

“Pocono is always challenging. It’s three completely different turns, which makes it a completely different racetrack from anything else we race on. You’ve got to pick your turn. In the past, I’ve worked on Turn 1 too much, and Turn 3 is really where you make or break yourself. So, our focus is 3, 2, 1, kind of working backwards because that’s how your speed comes. It’s a unique track, but it’s fun and very, very fast.

“It seems like the first year or two after a repave, there’s not a whole lot of difference. But every year after that, it seems to really change quite a bit. So, I look for it to be quite a bit different than it was, especially with how the winter and the snow up there affect the track.”

JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 14 Sprint Cup career starts at Pocono Raceway … His top finish at Pocono is 16th (2008).

. @DavidGilliland on tackling @poconoraceway: ‘Our focus is 3, 2, 1 … because that’s how your speed comes.’ #WhatTurn4
