Andrew Gresel Earns Top-5s at Don Biederman Memorial

INNISFIL, ON- OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour point-leader Andrew Gresel continued his streak of strong performances this weekend, earning a pair of top-5 finishes in the 16th annual Don Biederman Memorial at Sunset Speedway.

The Hepworth, ON driver earned top qualifier honours in time trials, with a blistering lap of 13.514, and remained in contention throughout the weekend.

“Any time you can bring down a top-5 in a field like this, you gotta be happy”, said Gresel post-race on Night 2. “I feel like we’re still working to figure this place out. It’s tricky. We have a great ‘big track’ program, and a great ‘bullring’ program, Sunset just seems to fall in the middle somewhere”

Gresel led a multitude of laps on Night 1, before fading at the halfway portion of the 50-lap contest.

“Our tires went away on us a little quicker than we thought we would on Saturday”, explained Gresel. “There wasn’t much left by lap-50, we really had to get up on the wheel to bring home a top-5”

Exiting the Biederman Memorial, Gresel has still yet to find victory lane at Sunset Speedway, though the former Pro Late Model standout is confident his moment is coming.

“Every time we unload at Sunset, we get better”, said Gresel. “We’re learning with every practice session, every heat race and every feature. There are a few guys on the tour with a couple more laps around Sunset than me, but I like to think we’re catching up”

“We just have to keep at it”, continued Gresel. “Our Sunset notebook is a lot thicker than it was when we debuted this car last season, and we’re going to keep adding to it until we find victory lane”

With Sunset Speedway in his rearview, Gresel shifts his focus to his two most dominant tracks, for Rounds 6 and 7 of the tour.

“We’re happy with a 4th place overall finish at ‘the Biederman’, but we’re real excited to be going back to Kawartha and Sauble”, said Gresel as his face broke into a wide smile. “There’s something about Kawartha that brings out the best in our program, and Sauble is our home track. Hopefully we can get back to victory lane”
