INNISFIL, ON- In just his second career Modified appearance at Sunset Speedway, Rookie of the Year contender Tommy Robb impressed with back-to-back top-10 finishes during the 16th annual Don Biederman Memorial weekend.
“This team is all about forward movement”, said Robb post-race on June 29th. “We want to be better this weekend than we were the last time out. I definitely feel as though we accomplished that these last two nights”
The former Ltd. Late Model winner raced the two events with an injured wrist, after a late-race accident in Round 3 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour at Barrie Speedway on June 14th.
“I have a feeling I might be paying for it all week”, laughed Robb when asked about racing with the injury. “We’re chasing Rookie points, I can’t let something like a banged up wrist take me out. I bandaged it up and just gritted my way through it. It’s throbbing like hell now, but it’s nothing a few Tylenols won’t take care of”
Robb turned in a 6th place performance on Saturday and a 7th place finish on Sunday, giving the Roymar Construction-sponsored team a solid rebound after a disappointing outing at Barrie.
“We had a great car at Barrie, then had a late race caution send us to the back”, explained Robb. “Anytime that happens, it’s bound to take some of the wind out of your sails. So it was awesome to come out and lay down a pair of top-10 finishes this weekend”
“Our car still isn’t exactly where we want it to be, but it’s improving every time out of the box”, added Robb. “We loosened up late in the race, both nights, which is something we’ll work to keep from happening in the future”
Robb is working to reign in fellow freshman Max Beyore in the tour’s Rookie of the Year points battle.
“The Rookie of the Year title is our priority, without question. Consistent finishes is exactly what we need to pull it off. There were times this weekend in which we could have pushed the issue, and taken some unnecessary risks, but that’s not the strategy that we have for this season”
“We’re first year competitors on the tour, but this whole team has been around racing long enough to know that driving in over our head isn’t going to get us anywhere”, closed Robb.
Tommy Robb will have a short turnaround before his next OSCAAR Modified Tour appearance, as he makes the long haul to Ottawa, ON for his first career appearance at Capital City Speedway in Round 6 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour. Event details can be found at www.OSCAAR.ca
