11 TURNS FOR NUMBER 11: Elliott Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team travel to New York this weekend to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event on the 11-turn road course at Watkins Glen International. In five Nationwide Series starts at the track, Sadler has one top-five and two top-10 finishes. In addition, the veteran driver has 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Watkins Glen, with one top-10 finish.
JUST THE STATS: After 20 races in the 2014 season, Sadler is currently in third place in the Nationwide Series driver championship point standings, 12 points back from the lead. The Emporia, Va., native has one win, one pole award, five top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.
THE GLEN IN 2013: During the Aug 2013 event at Watkins Glen International, Sadler and the OneMain Financial team started from the eleventh position. Sadler battled for 200 miles and was able to tame the 11-turn road course and finished fifth.
LAST RACE: IOWA SPEEDWAY: Last week, Sadler and the No. 11 team qualified eighth at Iowa Speedway. Early in the race, the No.11 team tried a different fuel strategy from the field and quickly moved to the front. Sadler led the pack for seven laps on Saturday night. With different fuel strategies coming into play from other teams and handling problems becoming an issue in the closing laps, Sadler was able to battle and cross the finish line in 10th-place.
ELLIOTT SADLER QUOTES: “As a driver, it’s fun to get away from the oval tracks every once in a while and really challenge your true driving skills. Road course racing can definitely be physically and mentally exhausting, but if you have a fast car, it can quickly bring back the memories of flying around a track in a go-kart. The Glen can be very challenging, but hopefully my veteran road course experience can reflect in a great qualifying spot, which will drastically improve my chances to win on Saturday afternoon. We’ve only had one road course race this season and the majority of that race was run in the rain. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed for clear skies on Saturday so we can try to put this OneMain Financial Toyota in Victory Lane.”
RACE INFO: The Zippo 200 at the Glen from Watkins Glen International will be on ABC at 2:15 p.m. ET, on Saturday, Aug 9th, as well as MRN and SIRIUSXM 90.
