Truex Jr., Furniture Row Racing Have Own Chase in Remaining 10 Races

DENVER (Sept. 10, 2014) – As the 2014 Sprint Cup Series season counts down with 10 races remaining, Martin Truex Jr. and the Furniture Row Racing team are looking for the breakthrough race that will launch them to another level of competition.

According to Truex, not qualifying for the Chase for the Sprint Cup season championship has no bearing on the team’s desire and work ethic during the homestretch.

“We’re not in the Chase and that’s disappointing,” said Truex. “But that doesn’t mean we’re throwing away the next 10 races. We have our own Chase and that’s to improve and get our Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet running better and having it be a contender week in and week out.  Everyone at Furniture Row Racing will be working hard to find that sweet spot in the next 10 races.”

Truex would like to start seeing positive results soon, like on Sunday during the Chicagoland Speedway’s MyAfibStory.com 400.

“There’s no time to waste, we need to step up our program right now since Chicagoland is the first of five 1.5-mile tracks we’ll compete at during the stretch run,” stated Truex.

The good news for Truex is that he likes the unique characteristics about Chicagoland Speedway, located in Joliet, Ill.

“The one thing that stands out about the Chicagoland Speedway is that the backstretch straightaway is not straight,” noted Truex. “So that’s a little different than anywhere we go. The track is along the lines of Homestead and Atlanta as far as the asphalt getting worn out. It gets racey at Chicagoland and that’s what we all like to see.

“The seams in the track are always an issue at high-speed venues, but Chicagoland isn’t as bad as other high-speed tracks. However, it’s a difficult track to get through the bumps, probably more so this year than ever.”

Truex added, “I still believe we will find that sweet spot, and when we do, our Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet will be running with the best-of-the- best. It’s taken us longer than we had anticipated, but we have to deal with it and move on.”
