BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — September 10, 2014 — Kraig Kinser has gotten plenty of windshield time over the last month as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series has visited 10 tracks in five states and one Canadian province over the course of a grueling 13-race stretch, including seven shows in eight nights in Washington, Oregon and California. After putting in another 1,800 miles this week to get from California to Iowa, the second-generation driver will compete at Clay County Fair Speedway in Iowa, and Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota, aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim.
The Arnold Motor Supply Shootout at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, is set for Friday, September 12. The series then heads north to Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota, for the ASGROW/DEKALB Clash at the Creek on Saturday, September 13.
“We have definitely had a busy last couple weeks, and we are excited to get back to the Midwest, because that means we’ll be back at the shop in a few more days,” said Kinser. “It’s a long trip across the country for this week’s races, so running well in them makes it worth it. We have had pretty good runs at both tracks and feel comfortable at both.”
Kinser finished second in his debut at Clay County Fair Speedway in 2008, leading 26 laps in that race. Last season at the three-eighths-mile fairgrounds track, he crossed the line eighth. Kinser timed in 13th-quickest and powered his way from fifth to second in the first heat race to earn a spot in the dash. He came home ninth in the dash, which put him on the inside of the fifth row for the 30-lap main event. Kinser has five top-10 finishes in seven starts at Clay County Fair Speedway dating back to 2008.
The native of Bloomington, Indiana, finished eighth at Deer Creek Speedway last season, after lining up 14th at the high-banked three-eighths-mile. He opened the night as the 14th-fastest driver in time trials. He finished sixth in the second heat race to earn a spot in the 35-lap A-Feature. In his career, Kinser has made five starts at Deer Creek Speedway, recording top-10 finishes in each of his last three visits to the track. Kinser finished a career-best sixth at the track in 2012.
During the recent West Coast swing, Kinser picked up a best finish of 10th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Washington on Labor Day.
“We had a fast car most nights on the West Coast, but didn’t have too much luck on our side, and ultimately didn’t have too much to show for it,” Kinser said. “Out here with the Outlaws, it takes a little bit of everything to be in contention night in and night out. We feel like we have made a lot of gains in the second half of the year, especially in time trials, and are getting closer to where we want and need to be. Right now, it just seems like we need luck on our side a bit more.”
Kinser is currently ninth in points with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series on the strength of 27 top-10 finishes.
