Harvick wins the Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 at Chicagoland

Kevin Harvick won Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. He led 43 laps en route to his fourth win of the season and the ninth for JR Motorsports. Harvick gave credit to his crew chief for making the the call to get only two tires during a late race pit stop which gave him critical track position.

“Ernie (crew chief Ernie Cope) won the race for us, and the car was fast, but when we got out front and the tires not having many laps, and the 54 (Busch) being buried in the field—that’s what won us this race today.” Harvick said.

Busch led the field six times for a race-high 141 laps of the 200 laps.

“It sucks to not be in victory lane where we should be, Busch said after the race. “You know what, this Monster Energy Camry was fast today and deserved to win, but can’t get through traffic.”

Kyle Larson finished second, Busch third, Ryan Blaney fourth and Trevor Bayne finished fifth.

Series leader Chase Elliott finished 10th and holds an 18-point lead in the series standings over Regan Smith who finished seventh. Ty Dillon (-40), Elliott Sadler (-51) and Brian Scott (-56) round out the top five in the points standings.
