SPARTA, Ky. – A late-race mechanical issue cost Landon Cassill a solid finish in Saturday night’s VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300 Nationwide Series race at Kentucky Speedway.

Cassill finished 29th after a broken valve spring and dropped valve in the closing laps sent him to the garage.

“A tough night,” Cassill said. “We were rolling along fine until we had the late-race issue. It’s tough to see a good finish disappear because of a parts failure.”

Cassill, who started 22nd, ran has high as 11th.

Brendan Gaughan won the race, his second victory of the season. Rookie Chase Elliott stayed in the point lead.

The series races next in Dover, Del. Sept. 27.
