A Family Affair: Bloomington Highlights Two-race Weekend for Kraig Kinser

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — September 24, 2014It’s going to be an emotional night on Friday at Bloomington Speedway for the entire Kinser family, there is no doubt about it, as Steve Kinser makes his final start at his home track as a full-time member of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series. As he has for most of the last decade, Kraig Kinser will be there to compete against his dad, with numerous family members and countless friends and fans in attendance cheering them on.

Indy Race Parts Presents the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Bloomington Speedway in Indiana on Friday, September 26. The series then heads north to Berlin Raceway in Berlin, Michigan, for an event on Saturday, September 27.

Kinser last raced at his home track in 2012, with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, finishing seventh. The third-generation driver opened that night as the eighth-fastest driver in time trials of the 22 entries. He crossed the line second in the second heat race to earn a spot in the dash, where he finished eighth. In 2011 at the quarter-mile, Kinser finished 10th with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.

“It’s always great to race at Bloomington,” said Kinser, who drives the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim. “It will be a pretty special night for our whole family, and it will be great to have everyone there as well. We’ve had some good runs there over the years and it would be pretty neat to be battling my dad for the win. We’ll both definitely be giving it all we got, like we do every night out there. We’ll have a ton of people out there cheering us on, so that will be a big plus as well.”

Berlin Raceway will be hosting the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series for the first time ever this weekend. The 7/16th-mile is normally a paved track, but dirt was put on it earlier this month, with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series competing at the venue for the second straight year. Kinser finished 12th at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan, earlier this season, in his only start in the Great Lakes State. Berlin Raceway will mark the second track in the state of Michigan that Kinser has competed at with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.

“Going to a new track is always interesting and Berlin will be even more so, because they only put the dirt on for a few weeks each year,” said Kinser. “The late models ran there a couple weeks ago and there is also a race the night before us, so that should help, in that there will have been laps on the track and it has had time to settle a bit. With the season winding down you always try to gain some momentum going into the off-season.

Last weekend, Kinser finished 21st in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series portion of the Four-Crown Nationals at the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio. The following night he crossed the line 12th in the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania.

Kinser enters this week’s pair of races ninth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series standings on the strength of one win, along with 29 top-10 finishes. A total of nine full race nights remain on the 2014 calendar.

Kraig Kinser Racing would like to thank Casey’s General Stores, Mesilla Valley Transportation, King Racing Products, Maxim, Aerodine Composites, Sander Engineering,Integra Shocks, All Star Performance, FK Rod Ends, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bell, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Schoenfeld Headers, Donovan Engineering,Fel-Pro, Brodix, Wilwood, Dyer’s, Barnes Systems, Ringer Gloves, Jakes Custom Golf Carts, and Ben Cook Racing Limited for their continued support.
