Martinsville Is a Return to Gilliland’s Short-Track Roots

A&W Scheme Returns to No. 38 Ford for 500 Laps at Series’ Shortest Track

STATESVILLE, OCTOBER 21, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 A&W All American Food Ford, comments on racing at Martinsville Speedway:”Martinsville is a cool track. It’s tough to get a hold of and hard to make your stuff turn well there. But that’s short-track racing. It’s what I grew up with, racing short tracks all across California. To be out there and do it again is always fun. It’s a very physical race, and it’s a long race. Five hundred laps there is a long time.

“Brakes are definitely important. Martinsville is the hardest place on brakes that we go to. It just seems like they never get a chance to cool down. But the brakes companies have really developed their brake calipers and rotors, and our cooling packages and brake ducts and blowers have really come so far in the last couple years. So, fortunately, we haven’t had brake trouble the last couple trips to Martinsville, and hopefully this trip will be the same. ”
JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 16 Sprint Cup career starts at Martinsville Speedway … His top finish at the .526-mile oval is 19th (2010) .. A&W All American Food returns as primary sponsor of the No. 38 Ford.
