CHASTAIN, JD MOTORSPORTS BEGIN JOURNEY

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ross Chastain will begin his first season-long ride in the Xfinity Series in Saturday’s Alert Today Florida 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

Chastain will be in the Watermelon.org/Flex Shot Chevrolet No. 4, fielded by JD Motorsports with Gary Keller, the Gaffney, S.C.-based team that will have three teams in the series this year.

Chastain raced four seasons in the Camping World Truck Series and ran seven Xfinity races last year.

“The biggest thing for me is being able to know that I’m going to every race,” Chastain said. “I’ve kind of bounced around the last few years and run limited schedules. There were times when I had to sit out a month. The seat time is irreplaceable.”

Chastain scored a 10th-place Xfinity run at Kentucky Speedway last year.

“I don’t have anything to prove to anybody,” said Chastain, a 23-year-old from Florida. “I’ve shown I can go fast. I’ve sat on poles and led laps and outperformed in equipment that shouldn’t have performed good. A lot of people are underestimating us and what we can do.”

Practice for Saturday’s season opener is scheduled at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday. Qualifying is set for 12:15 p.m. Saturday, with the race scheduled to get the green flag at 3:30 p.m.
