I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT

New Rules Package Debuts: For the first time this season, the new NSCS rules package will be seen on track. The package, which was announced in September, includes 30 technical enhancements for non-superspeedway races and is designed to help increase passing and improve the racing experience for fans. Key changes include a one-inch reduction in spoiler height to help reduce drag, a narrower radiator pan to that will help move downforce off the front of the car, a reduction in horsepower to approximately 725 HP, and lower rear differential gear ratios to target 9,000 RPM engine speed

First Time for Second: After regularly hosting NSCS races towards the beginning of the season, as well as the end, AMS moved to only hosting races in the fall starting with the 2011 season. After several changes to the NSCS schedule this season, the Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500 will be the first time since AMS opened in the 1960 that the track will play host to the second race of the season.

CGR at AMS: In 60 races at AMS, CGR drivers have won the pole award once (Martin Truex, Jr. Sept. 2009), and have five top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. The best result by a CGR driver came in the fall 2001 race when Sterling Marlin drove to a runner-up finish.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald’s Team

Daytona Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) kicked-off the 2015 season with a sun-drenched day at Daytona International Speedway (DIS). Jamie McMurray looked to add another 2015 Daytona trophy to his case, in follow-up to claiming victory in last month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona. The Cessna/McDonald’s Chevy ran among the lead pack through most of the 203-lap race until being collected in an accident with less than 50 laps to go.

McMurray at Atlanta: McMurray has 21 previous starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) where he has completed 6,574 of 6,785 (96.9%) laps of competition and has four top-10 finishes with an average start of 21.3 and average finish of 19.6. McMurray’s best finish at AMS came in Oct. 2005 when he finished sixth, his best start, third position, came in March 2009.

Golden Arches: There is no reason to go hungry on the way to or from Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.  There are several locations within 10 miles of the track with the closest restaurant located at 11281 Tara Blvd Hampton, GA  30228 (770) 472-7113.

Kyle Larson and No. 42 Energizer EcoAdvanced Team

Daytona Results: The season-opening Daytona 500 and Daytona Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) proved to be an up and down affair for the Target team. Larson started the Daytona 500 at the rear of the field after moving to a backup car on the previous day but as the race neared the final few laps he was still in position for a top-15 finish.  On the final lap an eight-car incident off Turn 2 knocked him out of the race, resulting in a 34th-place finish.

Larson at Atlanta: Larson’s first experience at AMS in the NSCS came in 2013, when he was officially announced as the new full-time driver for the No. 42 Target Chevrolet. In previous NSCS start at AMS, Larson started the race in the third position and finished the race in eighth-place. Larson also has two top-five finishes in NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) races at AMS.

Four Percent for First: As the NSCS heads to AMS for the first race of the season at an intermediate track, and first race with the new rules package, Energizer® is set to serve as the primary partner on Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet SS. As the race welcomes a few firsts for the season, Energizer® will also be highlighting a first. Following several years of development, Energizer® recently introduced the EcoAdvanced™ AA battery, which is a first-of-its-kind battery made with four percent recycled battery material. The battery delivers long-lasting power while also creating less impact on the planet. Similar to Energizer’s dedication to creating a product that saves resources, Larson’s No. 42 Target team also looks for ways to be efficient while striving to be effective on the race track.

A Shopping Bullseye: If you have made it to the race only to find out you’ve forgotten to pack a few necessities, there’s no need to worry.  For all your last minute needs and forgotten items, Target has all the essentials and more.  The nearest Target is located at 1850 Jonesboro Rd, McDonough, Ga. 30253 and can be reached at (678) 583-2184.  Call ahead and make sure they have what you need.
