ADVANCE NOTES

Reed at Bristol Motor Speedway

Reed has competed at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) three times in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. He earned his best finish of 14th at the track in fall 2014 after starting 19th.

Diabetes Alert Sticker Program

Ryan Reed will participate in a news conference Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at the O. Bruton Smith building at BMS to discuss the placement of a special sticker on his car for the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300. The Diabetes Alert sticker, developed by Wellmont Health System, will be placed on the c-post of the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang for Saturday’s race.

The sticker, which Wellmont has used since 2009, informs a law enforcement officer who is investigating a potential case of impaired driving to check whether a motorist might instead be having difficulties with his or her diabetes. A person experiencing a diabetes emergency might exhibit symptoms that mimic impaired driving.

Riding with Ryan

American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador Eli Spencer of Alcoa, Tennessee will ‘Ride with Ryan’ this weekend.  The 14-year-old’s name will ride above the passenger-side window of the No. 16 Ford Mustang.  Spencer, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in May 2013, runs track for his high school team and participates in local duathlons. Spencer was a Red Rider in last year’s Knoxville Tour de Cure®, raising more than $500 for the American Diabetes Association.

Texas Recap

Reed earned a 15th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday after starting in the 14th position. Reed ran as high as the eighth spot, but a late-race pit road penalty halted Reed’s march to the front of the field.

2015 Season

Reed is currently fifth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after one win and five top-15 finishes. He is the only XFINITY Series regular to win a race so far this season.

Reed on Bristol

“I’m excited to get the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang back on track at Bristol.  I love short-track racing and it would be awesome to get our second win of the season in the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300.”
