Brett Moffitt No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Bristol Preview

CORNELIUS, N.C. — No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver Brett Moffitt gets a rare opportunity to race on a familiar track this weekend when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visits the high-banked, half-mile Bristol Motor Speedway.

In his 14 career Sprint Cup starts, Moffitt has made only two return visits to tracks—Atlanta and Texas Motor Speedways.

How valuable is familiarity?

Moffitt finished 34th in 2014 at Atlanta and eighth in March 2015. He finished 40th at Texas last year and 29th Saturday night.

The  22-year-old rookie, who is substituting for Brian Vickers as he recovers from blood clots, plans to show similar improvement in his second Sprint Cup race at Bristol where he finished 42nd in August 2014.

Adding to his confidence is a second-place finish at Bristol in the 2013 K&N Pro Series East race.

BRETT MOFFITT ON EXPERIENCE: “Nothing is more valuable than experience in Sprint Cup racing. These drivers out here are really good so you are going to have to be really good to compete with them. While they are making their cars go faster, rookies like me are learning the track. You have about two hours of practice to figure everything out then go qualifying. You get the same on Saturday to figure out your race setup on Sunday. It’s a huge challenge. ”

BRISTOL: “I feel a little bit more comfortable going into Bristol than some of the other tracks we raced on this year. I’ve run well there in the K&N car and we had a pretty good run going in August in the No. 66 before we broke. Michael Waltrip Racing always seems to run well at Bristol so I think we could surprise a few people this weekend. I’d really like a good qualifying spot and get a good start to the race. The pattern of the last few races has been to struggle at first then get pretty decent by the end of the race. I’d like to run better at the start of Bristol and have something for everyone at the end of the race as we did in Atlanta. Bristol is short track racing which fits my style and experience.”
