ADVANCE NOTES

Reed at Richmond International Raceway

Reed made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) in April 2013 and earned a 16th-place finish. He went on to finish 9th in the September 2013 race at the track and finished 12th and 16th in the spring and fall 2014 races at the track, respectively.

Riding with Ryan

American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador Eli Hopkins of West Point, Va. will ‘Ride with Ryan’ this weekend.  The 13-year-old’s name will ride above the passenger-side window of the No. 16 Ford Mustang.  Hopkins, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age seven, is a fellow racer. He currently competes on dirt bikes, but is a two-time ATV National Champion. When he is not racing or traveling throughout the state supporting events and initiatives to raise awareness about diabetes, Hopkins also enjoys fishing, hunting, riding bikes and spending time with his diabetes assistance dog, Clutch.

Bristol Recap

Reed took home a 21st-place finish in Saturday’s Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The No. 16 Ford Mustang sustained damage in a mid-race incident while running 17th, forcing Reed to come down pit road for a lengthy stop to make repairs.

NASCAR Green

To commemorate NASCAR’s third annual NASCAR Race to Green™ initiative, Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series teams will feature the NASCAR Green mark on the A-post of the car, pit boxes, and hauler flags. The ‘XFINITY’ decal on the front windshield of the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang will also be the color green this weekend. NASCAR Race to Green will build awareness around the programs the governing body, industry and multiple partners have created to help protect and preserve the environment.

2015 Season

Reed is currently fifth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after one win and five top-15 finishes. He is the only XFINITY Series regular to win a race so far this season.

Reed on Bristol

“Richmond is such a special place to me since I made my XFINITY Series debut there. Racing at Richmond takes me back to my roots of racing on short tracks – using lots of brake, wearing the tires out. We struggled a little bit last year at the track, but I have a lot of confidence going into Richmond since it’s the only track in the series that I have raced at four times already.”
