Bobby Labonte Geico 500 Race Advance

47th Annual Geico 500 at Talladega Super Speedway

News and Notes:  Sunday’s Geico 500 will be Labonte’s 723rd career NSCS start, and his 43rd at the famous Super Speedway. A win on Sunday for the Corpus Christi, TX native would tie him with older brother Terry Labonte for 34th on the all time win list.

The last time the 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion visited victory lane at Talladega Superspeedway was back in 1998 where he led 60 laps after sitting on the pole.

Labonte visitied victory lane at Talladega competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series during the 2007 event driving for Kevin Harvick after only leading two laps.

Bobby Labonte on Talladega: “I’m excited to back in the C&J Energy Services Ford Fusion this weekend. Once we got into the race at Daytona the car was very competitive, at least the new qualifying format will be different for restrictor plate races. Hopefully that will be better for us since we ran into the trouble with that at Daytona. I’m not sure anybody knows exactly how everyone will qualify by themselves, but I’m confident we will have good speed in our Ford right away. The racing at Talladega is always exciting with some good racing and green flag stops so we are going to have to be good on pit road so that we don’t lose the draft. I can’t make any mistakes there as well, and am looking for a good weekend.”

Chassis Info: Crew Chief Clinton Cram will be bringing chassis GGR-650 to serve as the primary car. Previously, Labonte ran this chassis in the 2015 Budweiser Duels.  Chassis GGR-689 will serve as the backup car, which previously ran in the 2015 Daytona 500.
