KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
As you watch the replay, what happened in the accident?
“Just looks like the 2 (Brad Keselowski) got into my left rear and he got away unscathed and trashed everybody else’s stuff.”
How frustrating is it to wreck this early in practice?
“It’s frustrating and it’s not at all what these guys pour all their blood, sweat and tears into. We wreck in practice and that’s not very smart.”
What did you feel from the driver’s seat in the accident?
“I guess the 2 (Brad Keselowski) got into my left rear and just spun us around. All these guys at the shop and everybody, they work way too hard building race cars in general to be wrecking them in practice. There’s room to lift and sometimes people don’t.”
Do you deserve an apology from Brad Keselowski?
“I don’t care. It’s his (Brad Keselowski) fault and he caused it, but I’ve also probably been in the same boat and caused them before. It’s practice. You don’t need to be up a guys’ left rear. I rolled out and got out of the gas I don’t know how many times during that session just to not run into the car in front of me just because it’s not that time of the game to go.”
CARL EDWARDS, No. 19 Subway Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
What happened in the accident and why were you working on the car after the accident?
“They don’t really like me working on the car that we’re going to race, but the one that we wrecked, they let me work on that all I want. It’s kind of nice. I used to work on everything and I don’t ever get to touch anything. I’ve actually got a little bit of grease on one of my hands, I feel like a real racer. Overall, the guys put so much work into this car and it’s really frustrating to get wrecked like that. It’s 90-something degrees out here and it’s slick and everybody is trying to get the best lap they can for weather in case qualifying were to be rained out or something. Just the nature of the beast. I slowed down – I saw Kyle (Busch) and Brad Keselowski wrecking and those guys are two of the best at this. That’s the way it goes. I slowed down and somebody just hit me from behind. We got another Subway Toyota and I’ve seen this race won with backup cars and races won at these tracks with backup cars – I saw Kyle win a race in the Xfinity Series with basically no fenders and everything was destroyed. We just want to make sure we get this one to the race now.”
Are you frustrated by an accident this early in practice?
“It’s frustrating – whoever ran over me from behind, that’s frustrating for me. I’m all about intention. If somebody intends to do something, I’m mad as I can be about it, but if it’s an accident then it’s an accident. This is a style of racing that these are the things you see at this type of race. Just the way it goes. It’s like Darian (Grubb, crew chief) said, its restrictor plate racing and this can happen so let’s go race.”
How slick was the race track?
“I was just getting started. I don’t really know. The slicker the better, the best race I’ve ever had here was when Dale (Earnhardt) Jr. won and I finished second in the Xfinity cars when it was real slick and nobody liked it, but this is a fun place to run when it’s slick so hopefully it stays that way.”
