TEAM CHEVY DRIVER PRACTICE NOTES & QUOTES

MARTIN TRUEX JR., NO. 78 FURNITURE ROW/VISSER PRECISION CHEVROLET SS – Involved in a multi-car accident early in the first Sprint Cup Series practice session at Daytona International Speedway. Truex Jr. will go to a back-up car, which was the team’s superspeedway Chevy SS in 2014. It last competed in October at Talladega Superspeedway.

“Everything happened so quickly. Cars were starting to check-up and I then saw the No. 18 (Kyle Busch) starting to get sideways. I hit the brakes to try to slow down but for some reason our car just went straight into the wall. We have a lot of damage and will be going to a backup car. We’ll be fine.”

JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 MCDONALD’S CHEVROLET SS – Involved in a multi-car accident early in the first Sprint Cup Series practice session at Daytona International Speedway. McMurray will go to a back-up car.

“I only saw the No. 11 car (Denny Hamlin) spinning. I don’t know. It was quite a ways in front of me. I actually started to get slowed down and looked in my mirror and I didn’t see anyone behind me and slowed down a little bit more. And, then someone got into the back of me and started me spinning. I really didn’t crash. I just had a couple of small hits. The cars are so sensitive, (crew chief) Matt (McCall) just thought it was going to be better to go to a backup car.”

IT’S OBVIOUSLY FRUSTRATING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PRACTICE. HOW DO YOU GET PAST THAT AND JUST GET DOWN TO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO?
“Well, I think it’s way harder for the team than it is the drivers. The race, the year we won the 500, we were in our third car I believe; and knew it wasn’t that great of a car and we were still able to win with it. So, I’m not really frustrated. It’s just part of plate racing and hopefully it happened today and doesn’t happen in the race.”
