Honda Indy 200 Post-Event Infractions, Manufacturer Championship Points Update

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 5, 2015) – INDYCAR announced the following post-event infractions and manufacturer championship points updates following the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, which was held Aug. 2 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course:

• Verizon IndyCar Series driver Rodolfo Gonzalez (Dale Coyne Racing) was fined $500 for violating Rule 1.2.7.1.2 of the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook (personal safety equipment – driver’s visor up during pit stop refueling).

• The No. 19 Dale Coyne Racing entry was fined $500 for violating Rule 7.9.6 (unattended equipment – wheel nut).

• Chevrolet received a bonus of 10 manufacturer championship points for an engine that attained its life cycle minimum during the Honda Indy 200 race weekend. According to Rule 10.6.4.2, 10 points are awarded to a manufacturer for an engine that successfully reaches its 2,500-mile life cycle. The Chevrolet engine on the No. 67 CFH Racing entry met the life cycle requirement.

• Chevrolet received a deduction of 60 manufacturer championship points for engines that did not attain their life cycle during the Honda Indy 200 race weekend. According to Rule 10.6.4.3, 20 manufacturer points are deducted for an engine that fails to reach its 2,500-mile life cycle. The Chevrolet engines on the No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, No. 20 CFH Racing and No. 22 Team Penske entries did not reach their life cycle minimums before being changed out.

• Chevrolet received an additional deduction of 20 manufacturer championship points for an engine that did not attain its life cycle after the Iowa Corn 300 on July 18. The engine on the No. 3 Team Penske entry did not reach its life cycle minimum before being changed out after the race weekend.

Following the manufacturer championship adjustments, Chevrolet has 1,309 points and Honda has 1,029.

Members may contest the imposition of penalties pursuant to the procedures and timelines details in the review and appeal procedures of the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook.
