Bayne finishes 22nd at The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 9, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, improved 12 positions from the drop of the green flag to earn a 22nd-place finish on Sunday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Watkins Glen International

“We kept our car clean today,” said Bayne after the race. “We had a tight handling AdvoCare Ford throughout the race but I’m proud of the work my guys did to this car today. I feel like our car was better than where we finished. But, we were able to keep all the fenders clean and bring this thing home in one piece. Now we look ahead to Ford’s backyard in Michigan.”

Bayne took the green flag from the 34th position at the famed 2.45-mile New York road course and maintained his track position throughout the opening run of the race, reporting to crew chief Bob Osborne that the AdvoCare Ford was tight both on the left and right-hand corners.

Hitting pit road for the first time on Lap 24, an inopportune caution trapped the Knoxville, Tenn. native down one lap to the race leaders. Taking the wave around back onto the lead lap, Bayne would take the Lap 28 restart from 38th. Despite the lack of track position, Bayne continued to work forward, moving into the 30th position just prior to a Lap 45 caution. During the yellow, crew chief Osborne utilized a strategy call to keep Bayne on the race track while several of the leaders hit pit road.

The strategy call worked as Bayne took the Lap 49 restart from the 13th position. A quick caution one lap later and the ensuing restart allowed Bayne to crack the top-10 and move into the seventh position. Bayne continued to battle for position in the top 10 until he had to hit pit road for the final time during a Lap 56 caution.

Due to various strategies, Bayne returned to the track in 26th as several cars stayed on the race track. In the closing stages, the Roush Fenway Racing driver would improve four positions and take the checkered flag in the 22nd position.

Next up for the NSCS is Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 16.
