NASCAR Driver David Ragan Partners with Feed the Children to Bring Hope to Unadilla Residents

UNADILLA, GA, Dec. 2, 2015 – On Saturday, Dec. 12, NASCAR driver David Ragan and Feed the Children will provide 400 pre-identified families in Unadilla and surrounding communities in Dooly County with food and essentials. The distribution will take place at State Bank & Trust (2206 Pine St.) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Because hunger cannot be defeated alone, Feed the Children’s partner agency, The Lord’s Pantry sponsored by Vienna Methodist Church, has pre-identified families who will each receive a 25-pound box of food; a 10-pound box of much-needed necessities like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and personal-care items; and a box of assorted Avon products. The items will be distributed in front of the State Bank & Trust. Ragan and his family will be on hand to greet the recipients and help with the distribution.

Local partners that helped make this event possible include State Bank & Trust, Lee Harris, Sheriff Craig Peavy and the Dooly Country Sheriff’s Department, and Open Hearts Thrift Store. Volunteers from the Jr. Beta Club of Fullington Academy and representatives from each local partner will help with the distribution.

This event is one of many that Feed the Children has planned across the country. Instead of worrying about having enough to eat, thousands of kids can just be kids this year. In Dooly County alone, 29 percent of families live below the poverty line. Often, these children are unsure where they will find their next meal.

“I am excited to partner with Feed the Children and The Lord’s Pantry to help provide meals for 400 families in my hometown of Unadilla and Dooly County,” said David Ragan. “During the Waltrip Brothers Charity Championship event, I met the Feed the Children group and learned how they can impact a community like mine. During this Christmas season, it will be a blessing to provide help for families in need.”

“We believe that no child should go to bed hungry in a land where there is plenty of food,” said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children Interim CEO/President and COO. “But the reality is, millions of boys and girls, right here in our own backyard, face this hardship every day. Thanks to our generous partners, David Ragan, The Lord’s Pantry and State Bank & Trust, today we are able to help these families rest a little easier knowing they do not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.”
