Ford Performance NASCAR: Can-Am Duel 2 Post Race

Ford Performance NSCS Notes and Quotes
Can-Am Duel #2 – Daytona International Speedway
Thursday, February 18, 2016

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 35 Front Row Motorsports Ford Fusion – DID THE WRECK AT THE END TAKE YOU OUT OF WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO AT THE END? “Our car just didn’t have enough speed. We kind of lost that front group and got behind and then with it going green the whole time – we had a good pit stop and got on and off pit road good, but it just wasn’t quite enough.”

ARIC ALMIROLA – No. 43 Smithfield Ford Fusion – “It’s frustrating to run the race like that and really just ride and be content with being in a good position, and then we had a little miscue on when we were gonna hit pit road and we ended up out there by ourselves for a lap. And then when we did pit we didn’t get enough fuel in it and we ran out of gas with two laps to go. I’m frustrated, but hopefully we’ll learn from that and we won’t do it in the Daytona 500.”

CAN YOU LOOK AT THE SILVER LINING HOWEVER AND SAY THAT YOU COULD HAVE BEEN IN THAT WRECK AT THE END IF YOU HAD ENOUGH FUEL? “Yeah, but we were racing around the 42 and the 10 and they missed it, so there are a lot of hypotheticals, but I would have at least liked to have raced to the end to see what we could have done.”

LANDON CASSILL – No. 38 Florida Lottery Ford Fusion – “For me, I think it’s just kind of sorting out the new deal. I think the race track is gonna be a lot different on Sunday. You’re not gonna see a single-file train around the top, I don’t think. But it was just a rush to get to the outside. We started on the inside and I was just too conservative on the start and didn’t get to the outside to kind of stay up in that lead group. Sunday isn’t gonna be like that. There’s gonna be a lot of two and three-wide racing.”

AND SOME CAUTIONS. “Probably. There will be more cautions. I’m a little frustrated with myself because I wanted to race the Duel harder than I did, but the way the first two laps played out for me I just wasn’t able to make an aggressive move that I was comfortable with, and it wasn’t worth risking the car. As it turned out, five laps into the race we just weren’t in the position I wanted to be. It turned out OK. They all wrecked each other at the end and I’m glad I wasn’t in it, but it sure would have been nice to race a little harder, but that’s what Sunday is for.”
