NASCAR Driver to Make Debut Start at Infamous ‘Brickyard’
FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. (July 20, 2016) – There aren’t many tracks on the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) circuit as historic as Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and driver Ray Black Jr. is honored to be making his first start at the 2.5-mile track during this Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250. The driver of the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Camaro, who is a fan of multiple types of racing, is looking forward to getting his chance to compete at a track where so many memorable moments have occurred.
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway is just such an iconic race track,” explained Black. “It’s somewhere that all race car drivers dream of going to compete at one day, so I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s event. It just has so much history there that it’s hard to not be impressed by all of it.”
Black, who is a fan of both the Verizon IndyCar Series and NASCAR, is excited to be getting his turn to compete on the track that has offered up so many iconic racing moments. The track is known to fans across the country as home to some of the most spectacular finishes in motorsports history.
“Indianapolis is a track where we have two of the biggest races in all of motorsports with the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400,” Black stated. “To be racing at a track where two major American motorsports series compete at really is an honor. There’s so many moments you can look back at that happened there, and I’m looking forward to taking in all the festivities and fan atmosphere there this weekend.”
Black and his SS Green Light Racing team will be coming into the Indianapolis race weekend on the heels of a strong weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where they recorded their 10th Top-25 finish of the season.
“We had a good race weekend at New Hampshire with another Top-25 finish,” said Black. “I really want to continue that momentum into Indy and grab a Top-20 finish. It’ll be a strategy-based race there with a lot of success riding on fuel mileage at the end, but it should be a fun one with some drafting taking place on the track. The Dash 4 Cash heat races are back too, which works as a nice test session for us.”
The Lilly Diabetes 250 will take place on Saturday, July 23 at 3:30 p.m. ET at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fans can tune in via NBCSN for live race coverage.
