ADVANCE NOTES
Reed at Bristol Motor Speedway
Reed has competed at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) six times in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. In this event last year, Reed finished 25th after starting 17th. Earlier this season at BMS, Reed finished 21st after starting 17th.
Riding with Ryan
American Diabetes Association® representative and diabetes advocate Scott Curtis will ‘ride’ along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during this weekend’s race. The Englewood, Tenn. resident will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window of the No. 16 Ford Mustang.
Like Reed, Curtis lives with diabetes and has learned the importance of managing his health through diet and exercise. Curtis was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes four years ago, two years after a work accident left him immobile. Weighing 489 pounds at the time of his diagnosis, Curtis’ medical situation was desperate. Curtis bought a mountain bike and started to slowly progress in his biking. He began riding in the American Diabetes Association of Knoxville Tour de Cure® cycling event as a Red Rider, a participant who lives with diabetes. Today, he rides 20-30 miles every day and has lost over 200 pounds. He serves on the Knoxville Tour de Cure planning committee and as a volunteer in the local Knoxville American Diabetes Association office.
Reed in 2016
Reed is scored 10th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series Championship standings after 21 races. He has recorded three top-10 finishes, led eight laps for the season and has recorded an average finish of 16th.
Mid-Ohio Recap
The No. 16 team finished 11th at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday after starting eighth and racing inside of the top-10 for the majority of the day on the rain-soaked surface.
Reed on Bristol Motor Speedway
“Bristol is one of the most difficult tracks for me just because it’s so different from anywhere else we race,” said Reed. “I haven’t had the best luck there in the past couple of years, but hope to turn it around this weekend. I spent some time on the simulator this week and our No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association team has been preparing for this race for a while. There’s no reason we can’t improve our stats at this track and take home a top-10 finish on Friday night.”
Meet Ryan
Reed and teammate Bubba Wallace will sign autographs for fans at the Fanatics Trackside Superstore at BMS on Friday, August 19th from 2 – 2:30 p.m. ET.
Tune-in
Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series will take the green flag from BMS on Friday, August 19th at 7:30 p.m. ET on USA.
