After leading 32 laps (of 250), Supra driver Christopher Bell was involved in an on-track incident in stage two that put him off the pit cycle. As a result, Bell finished 16th and remains second in the NXS driver point standings.

Fellow Toyota teammate and Joe Gibbs Racing driver Brandon Jones lost an engine on lap 175 and finished 33rd.

RILEY HERBST, No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

How was your first NASCAR Xfinity Series start of 2019?

“We started on the pole and led a few laps in the beginning. The whole first stage we just rode in third and fourth. We were cruising. We had a really good Toyota Supra. I made a lot of mistakes tonight. At the end of the stage, I spun my tires and that brought me back down to the mid-teens and 20s. Then I missed my pit box on pit road and had to start at the tail end and we just battled our way back through the field to somehow come away with a top 10. I definitely learned a lot every single lap tonight and Richmond is definitely a difficult race track, but it’s fun.”

BRANDON JONES, No. 19 Ruud Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 33rd

What happened to take you out of today’s race.

“We were having an okay day. I think we definitely could run inside the top 10. I came off turn four and truthfully thought I had kind of had a bad corner at first because I just didn’t really get past seven thousand RPMs and then it was like it almost took off again. I came back and I was like, I think we’re okay, but then all of a sudden I felt it go back down again. I’m sure we lost a valve or something. All in all these last two weeks have been a little tough on us, but we’re going to keep going. Talladega is normally pretty good to us if you can miss the big one and then we’ve got some more tracks too that are pretty good coming up. We’re going to keep plugging away and keep doing what we’ve been doing all year long which has been running in the top 10, top five and we’ll see what happens next week.”
