For more than two years, a collection of executives and engineers from NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet, Goodyear and IMSA worked to execute NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France’s vision to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 39-year-old Almirola from Tampa, Florida, led 17 of 79-scheduled laps and fended off road-ringers Allmendinger and Larson through a 15-lap dash to the finish to notch his first Xfinity victory since 2017.
The three-time Daytona 500 champion from Chesterfield, Virginia, claimed his second Cup pole award of the 2023 season after posting a pole-winning lap at 92.178 mph in 77.719 seconds.
