NASCAR Driver Looking for Redemption at Charlotte Motor Speedway
FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. (October 5, 2016) – Spending 33 weekends on the road while traveling with the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) can be tough at times, but 25-year-old driver Ray Black Jr. appreciates the constant motion and has adapted to living his life all across the country. As the series gets set to return to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend, the driver of the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Camaro recently had the chance to reflect on his year of traveling.
“Racing in NASCAR comes with a lot of travel, but I really enjoy it,” explained Black. “I like getting to see new and different things each weekend. I don’t like sitting still for too long so always being on the move works well for me.”
With the NXS visiting 24 different tracks during its 33 weeks of racing, Black has had the opportunity to explore cities and states across the country that he may not have gotten the chance to see otherwise.
“A lot of the cities we visit on the tour are fun ones to be in,” said Black. “My top ones would have to include Chicago – just because it’s a fun city every time we visit. I’d also add in Miami because it’s close to Key West, on the coast and in my home state. Las Vegas would round out my top cities on the tour because you have so many options of things to do out on the west coast, like riding dune buggies or exploring The Strip.”
While he can’t bring everything he wants out on the road with him, Black has been able to figure out what his travel “essentials” are and what he needs with him in order to have fun.
“For me, there’s really just three things I need while traveling,” Black stated. “A pair of headphones to listen to music with, cash and some friends to travel with. It makes it more fun when you have people visiting these places with you. Luckily for me, I get to travel with my team around the circuit.”
This week Black will be traveling from his home in Flagler Beach, Fla. to Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. for the Drive for the Cure 300. Black and his SS Green Light Racing team will be looking for some redemption this time around as a broken oil line cut their spring race short earlier this season.
Fans can tune into the Drive for the Cure 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET via NBCSN or the Performance Racing Network.
