Marcus Ericsson will be returning to Andretti Global for the 2027 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
The news comes as the 35-year-old Ericsson from Kumla, Sweden, is currently campaigning in his eighth full-time season in IndyCar competition and third in a row driving the No. 28 Dallara-Honda entry for Andretti Global.
This season, Ericsson achieved his first IndyCar career pole for the series’ inaugural Grand Prix event at the Streets of Arlington, Texas, in mid-March. He also holds an average-finishing result of 12.2 through 12-scheduled starts and has finished in the top-10 mark six times, which includes a podium by finishing in the runner-up spot at World Wide Technology Raceway in early June.
Currently, Ericsson is ranked in ninth place in the 2026 driver’s standings. Despite trailing points leader Alex Palou by 207 points, he is 14 points above the top-10 mark with six events remaining on this year’s schedule.
“I’m really excited about the contract extension,” Ericsson said. “I think it’s been a good year for us. We’ve really been turning things around after last year, and we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and that’s really been paying off. The results haven’t always gone our way this year, but I feel like we’ve been competitive and in the mix on every type of track. That makes me excited for next year and to be able to build on the momentum we’ve created this year. So, I’m super excited about that. I’m very thankful to Jill [Gregory, president], Dan [Towriss, team partner], Cassidy [Towriss, team parnter] and everyone else on the team for the trust they’ve put in me and for believing in me. Now we’re going to finish this season strong, put our heads down and come back even stronger next year.”
Ericsson first transitioned to IndyCar competition in 2019 after spending the previous five seasons competing in Formula 1. After notching his maiden podium by finishing in the runner-up spot at The Raceway on Belle Isle, Michigan, and finishing in 17th place in the 2019 standings with Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, the Swedish competitor spent the next four seasons driving for Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR).
As a CGR competitior, Ericsson notched his four IndyCar victories, to date, between 2021 to 2023. His first career victory occurred at Belle Isle in in mid-June 2021 and he backed it up two months later by winning the inaugural Grant Prix event at Nashville Street Circuit. Ericsson then achieved his biggest victory to date in May 2022 by winning the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 following a two-lap shootout and becoming the second Swedish competitor to win the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. His latest victory occurred in early March 2023 when he won the season-opening event at the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. During each of his victorious seasons, he finished a career-high sixth place in the final standings.
Since 2024, Ericsson has driven for Andretti Global, where he has finished as high as second place twice and has notched a combined 16 top-10 results through 47 starts with the organization. His one-year renewal to remain at Andretti completes the organization’s 2027 IndyCar lineup that also includes Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power.
Through 126 current starts in IndyCar competition, Ericsson has achieved four victories, a pole, 12 podiums, 294 laps led and an average-finishing result of 12.2 as he continues his pursuit for his first IndyCar championship.

With his plans for next season set, Marcus Ericsson’s 2027 NTT INDYCAR Series season resumes this upcoming Sunday, August 9, at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, for the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland. The event’s broadcast time is slated to commence at 4 p.m. ET on FOX.
