Fans Can Receive Race Weekend Updates via Text Message

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Further enhancing its highly successful Fan Texting Service, which allows fans to communicate with track officials on various issues, Daytona International Speedway will launch a new option that allows fans to sign up for and receive event updates directly to their Sprint® smart phones or other similarly capable device.

The new service will be available starting this weekend during the 33rd annual Budweiser Shootout and the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards on Saturday, Feb. 12.  The service will continue through Speedweeks and the 53rd Running of the Daytona 500, as well other events throughout the year.

Once fans sign up for the service, they can receive updates on traffic prior to the Daytona 500, parking lot opening times, schedule changes and more.  It’s a convenient way for fans to receive the latest event information so their experience at “World Center of Racing” is more enjoyable.

“We continue to explore all channels of communication to provide our fans with up-to-the-minute updates during our race weekends,” said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III.  “The successful texting technology helps further elevate our level of customer service for the hundreds of thousands of race fans that visit Daytona every year.”

To sign up, fans can text the word “DISINFO” to 69050. They will receive a confirmation text and future updates as they occur.

The Budweiser Shootout, NASCAR’s season-opening non-points event, is the climax to a racing doubleheader.  The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is set for 4:30 p.m. followed by the Budweiser Shootout at 8:10 p.m., which will feature former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions, the 2010 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field, a host of former outstanding rookies and a collection of previous winners at Daytona International Speedway.

Tickets for all Speedweeks 2011 events, including the Budweiser Shootout, are available online at http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
