Red Horse Racing at Chicagoland Speedway

Following a weekend off, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams returned to action at Chicagoland Speedway. The Red Horse Racing teams posting top-10 practice speeds in the final practice session on Thursday, Sept. 11. The following afternoon, rain postponed qualifying for the 15th race of the 2014 season, setting the starting grid per the NASCAR rule book, with Germán Quiroga in the eighth position and Timothy Peters in the 10th. The inclement weather remained in the Joilet, Illinois area, forcing the postponement of the 150-lap race to the Saturday, Sept 13 following the NASCAR Nationwide Series event and setting the stage for a double header race day. Both the No. 77 NET10 Wireless Toyota and the No. 17 The Duke of Oil/Valvoline Toyota competed in the top 10 in the first half of the event; however, an unscheduled green-flag pit stop relegated the No. 17 team to a 17th-place result. Quiroga was poised for a top-10 finish when he cut a tire down in the closing laps, forcing him to pit road and to take the checkered flag in the 19th position.

Timothy Peters Earns 17th-Place Finish at Chicagoland Speedway

Timothy Peters and the No. 17 The Duke of Oil/Valvoline Toyota Tundra team were one of the fastest trucks around Chicagoland Speedway in the rain-delayed NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Saturday night, but an unscheduled green-flag pit stop resulted in a 17th-place finish for the Red Horse Racing team. Peters posted the ninth-fastest practice speed in the final practice session; however, inclement weather resulted in the cancellation of qualifying and the postponement of the 15th race of the 2014 Camping World Truck Series season, setting up a double header for Saturday, Sept. 13. Per the NASCAR rule book, Peters took the green flag from the 10th position. Despite battling a loose-handling condition early in a run, he remained in the top 10 throughout the first half of the race. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called for air pressure and wedge adjustments during the first two pit stops in an effort to improve the red and white machine’s balance. On lap 77, Peters was forced to make an unscheduled, green-flag pit stop for four fresh tires. This cost the team valuable track position, dropping the Providence, North Carolina native to the 21st position. Trapped two laps down to the leader, Peters still turned the fastest laps on the track, outpacing even the race winner in the final circuits. Despite the impressive speed, he was unable to make up the lost ground and was relegated to a 17th-place result.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“We had a really, really fast The Duke of Oil/Valvoline Toyota Tundra tonight. It was a rocket. We just had an unfortunate pit stop and the cautions didn’t fall to get us back to the lead lap. This Tundra was just fantastic. The guys did a great job, and this No. 17 team never gave up. Thank you to The Duke of Oil and Valvoline for being on board with us tonight.”

Unfortunate Night for Germán Quiroga at Chicagoland Speedway; Finishes 19th

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams arrived to Chicagoland Speedway for the 15th race on the 2014 schedule on Thursday, Sept. 11. The teams had two practice sessions on Thursday, where they made laps around the 1.5-mile race track under sunny conditions. The No. 77 team struggled initially, commenting about the bumpy conditions of the race track, and finished the first practice session ninth. After making the necessary adjustments, Germán Quiroga found his stride and posted the sixth-fastest lap time during the final practice. Qualifying was cancelled due to inclement weather on Friday afternoon, putting the No. 77 NET10 Wireless team in the eighth position for the start of the race based off of practice speeds. Rain continued to fall throughout the day, postponing the start of the NASCAR 225 until Saturday evening. Once the green flag fell, Quiroga quickly found his rhythm, and remained in the top 10 for the majority of the 150-lap race. With less than 30 laps to go, the No. 77 sustained damage to the left-front side of the Toyota Tundra after making contact with a competitor who was entering pit road. Crew chief Butch Hylton made the call not to pit in an effort to stay on the lead lap. Quiroga was eventually forced to come down pit road under green-flag conditions after a tire rub from the incident cut down the left-front tire. The team made the necessary repairs for Quiroga to finish the race, ending his night in the 19th position.
