After posting a top-five time and qualifying second at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Brian Scott had his hopes set high for victory. However, his day wouldn’t go as planned as motor problems would hand him a DNF.
Scott started off the weekend with problems, blowing a motor in practice before even making a single lap. The team would get the motor changed and have been back out for the second practice that afternoon. The new motor showed speed, as shown by a strong qualifying effort.
Starting on the front row, Scott would not go on the start of the race, instantly reporting a problem under the hood. He would then head down pit road under the first caution at lap 15, diagnosing the problem further and going behind the wall, done for the race.
“I don’t know what happened, but unfortunately that’s our second issue of the weekend,” Scott commented afterwards. “We also had issues last weekend at Atlanta so procedurally, we’re not doing something right before we go to the track. It’s a shame. We had a good car and would’ve liked to have a good run. We have to figure out what we’re not doing right.”
As a result of two finishes outside of the top 15 this year, Scott currently sits 17th in points. Though more importantly, he has watched another chance at victory fade away, leaving him winless in 178 XFINITY career starts.
