NASCAR Cup Series

Easter is just around the corner and the tradition that accompanies the holiday of dying eggs a variety of colors. Like everyone else, the Sprint Cup Series will have to wait until next weekend to celebrate the holiday- the first of two off weekends for the circuit- but colors and eggs of a different sort characterize this weekend’s race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.

1. Jeff Gordon: Gordon took the lead on a late two tire pit stop, but was unable to hold off Joey Logano, with four tires, down the stretch at Texas. Gordon’s runner-up finish, his second of the year, moved him to the top of the points standings.

It appears the Lady and Martin Truex Jr. have developed a special chemistry. “I’d rather think of it as a mutual feeling of respect,” said Truex about the Lady in Black, the longtime nickname for the formidable Darlington Raceway, site of Saturday night’s Bojangles’ Southern 500.

After the cycle of scheduled green flag pit stops completed, it looked as though Joey Logano could simply cruise to victory without any worries as he had a solid two second lead on teammate Brad Keselowski as the laps ticked down.

Vickers’ No. 55 Aaron’s Toyota will carry a special paint scheme honoring FSU’s 2013 BCS National Championship football team when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Daytona International Speedway on July 5.

David Reutimann, driver of the No. 35 MDS Transport Ford, comments on racing at Darlington Raceway: "My first trip to Darlington was in the Truck Series. And I absolutely outdid myself on getting my 'Darlington stripe.' I got oin practice and might even have gotten one in qualifying. It's one of those places where, if you're not up against the fence and using up the right side of the car, you're not trying hard enough. I definitely think I got credit for trying hard enough my first race there.
