“It was fun out there. I had a really good Shell Pennzoil Ford. That 4 car was just so fast. I was joking on the radio that on the back bumper of that car it says freaky fast and they weren’t lying when they put that on there. We had a really good car, just not as good as his. On that last restart, the last two restarts, I figured I might as well go for it."

Kevin Harvick, a four-time winner at Phoenix International Raceway, paced Saturday morning practice, logging in 42 laps during the session, including the quickest one.

Brad Keselowski had a game plan coming into the debut of NASCAR's version of knockout qualifying. Keselowski turned a lap of 139.384 mph on Friday to set a new track record at Phoenix International Raceway, knocking out fellow Team Penske teammate, Joey Logano.

“It was different. You definitely have to have different strategies. You have to pick and choose the runs you’re going to make and all of what’s going to go on to keep your stuff cool. Our Skittles Toyota was third after the first one (session) and seventh now. It’s never any fun when you’re on the losing end of it.”

“There were points in time where it is extremely chaotic especially after a caution and when the track first opens when you have all the race cars. A couple of cautions could really create an issue for people, but we just had one today. Everybody was able to get out and get their laps and the track opened back up towards the end of that opening session."

“We had a really fast car and there is some pride to be taken in being the first one to win a Sprint Cup pole in this format. I am sure it will undergo a few adjustments along the way but it is very rewarding and a testament to my team and how fast of a car they gave me."

“Man, you win the first segment and Brad was second and we had him by a tenth that first run so I was feeling pretty good. After we made our lap we went faster in the first run and I felt good about it. I watched Brad’s first lap and he was able to pick it up the second lap. The third run I just couldn’t get going any faster, so that was tough.”
