Brian Scott had one goal in mind when starting the second Duel race at Daytona International Speedway, earn a spot in one of NASCAR's most prestigious events -- the Daytona 500. Scott rolled off sixth in his No. 33 Whitetail Chevrolet to begin the 60-lap segment.

Matt Kenseth would win the first Budweiser Duel in a crazy three-wide dash to the finish, while Denny Hamlin won the second Budweiser Duel in a crash-filled finish.

Denny Hamlin would hold off Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon to win the second Budweiser Duel as a wreck happened behind them after Johnson ran out of fuel.

"It was more than nerve-wracking. I was waiting on what happened off of four to happen a lot earlier. Fortunately, we just happened to go to the bottom. I can’t take credit for any of that, that’s just being at the right place at the right time, and I’m just so thankful for this team.

“I had a really strong Dollar General Toyota Camry and Kevin (Harvick) is one of the best -- Kevin, Tony (Stewart), there’s a few of those guys that you want to see behind you because you trust them to do the right things, but you also don’t because they’re so smart and I saw him laying back getting a run and he made the perfect move.

“Well I was prepared to go with a couple of laps to go it just depended on when they group really started getting antsy and getting tightened up as much as they could to get that run that you needed. I had to just go whenever I thought that run was going to be the biggest.

“Our car was really fast. At the start of that we had been on the bottom and got shuffled to the back. Everybody fell in line on the top and I think we were the last car on the lead lap in the line for a while. We made the move to the bottom and really worked our way to the front and had some pushers, and some of the others dropped down in front of us because they saw we had a good car.

Matt Kenseth would hold off an impressive move on the last lap by Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne to win the first of the two Budweiser Duels at Daytona International Speedway.

My grandfather might have fought on the front lines in World War I from the time he was 18 until he turned 22, but he did not invent NASCAR. My father might have turned limited educational opportunities in World War II Saskatchewan into a career in public works, but he never ran NASCAR.

Chevrolet unveiled today the trio of vehicles that will pace NASCAR’s opening round of events at Daytona International Speedway this weekend.
