NASCAR Cup Series

American Ethanol is enhancing its partnership with Richard Childress Racing and driver Austin Dillon for the 2014 NASCAR season. Beginning with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on March 2, Dillon will race the No. 3 American Ethanol Chevrolet SS in select races during the 2014 season.

Sunday’s qualifying for the Daytona 500 determined only the first row starting positions. Austin Dillon drove the No. 3 to the coveted pole position and Martin Truex Jr. put his No. 78 on the outside pole. The Budweiser Duels (60 laps, 150 miles each race) will determine the remainder of the starting grid.

Ganassi at Daytona: Since 2001 as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) car owner, Chip Ganassi has 60 starts at Daytona International Speedway (DIS). In those 60 starts his cars have completed 9,634 laps (24,085 miles) of competition, led 210 laps and have posted one victory (2010 Daytona 500), six top-five, 15 top-10 finishes and two pole awards.

In the final practice of the Budweiser Duel, Denny Hamlin would lead the speed charts with a lap of 45.096 seconds.

Jimmie Johnson, so far, has experienced a roller coaster ride during Speedweeks, and we're not even to the Budweiser Duel. He didn't start Speedweeks out like he would've hoped as he crashed into the inside wall off of turn four after getting loose while trying to make a move on Denny Hamlin for the lead.

The first practice for the Budweiser Duels got under way and it wasn't without excitement as the session was highlighted by two big wrecks.

“That’s just not how you wanted to start the day out. We’ve still got a lot of racing left to do and we had a good car. The guys worked so hard on it. I just hate it for everyone on this Aaron’s team who put so much into that car. Fortunately we’ve got another backup. I haven’t seen the replay yet -- I think the 26 (Cole Whitt) -- I don’t know if he just lost it."

Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion, received minor nose damage to his car during a multi-car accident in today’s first practice session. The team is currently making repairs and the car will run in tomorrow’s Duel.
