NASCAR Cup Series

There was a lot of genuine excitement associated with the opening day of NASCAR's 2014 Pre-Season Thunder tests at Daytona International Speedway. That was largely due to the fact that it meant the new NASCAR racing season had finally arrived.

NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace, turned laps in his old ride, the No. 2 Ford for most of the day at Daytona Testing Friday. Wallace and Brad Keselowski talked about putting the legend back on the track.

A full schedule of racing action showcasing numerous types of motorsports is planned at Atlanta Motor Speedway throughout 2014, with the events culminating during the Labor Day Weekend of NASCAR night racing onAug. 29-31.

Perhaps the most significant change to the 2014 NASCAR roster for Ford Racing is the addition of Mike Kelley as crew chief for the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing car of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Kelley and Stenhouse parlayed their chemistry into a pair of Nationwide Series championships in 2011 and 2012 before Stenhouse made the jump to Cup racing in 2013. Now, after a year apart, the pair are reunited and Kelley talked with Ford Racing about being back in Cup racing.

DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Daytona International Speedway and discussed the departure of Steve Letarte as crew chief in 2015, his outlook for the 2014 season and other topics.

While NASCAR nation’s thoughts are in Daytona today and tomorrow for 2014 preseason testing, behind the scenes back at the Richard Childress Racing shop, something even more unique than cars on the track is happening.

NASCAR's off-season will be briefly interrupted, Thursday, as teams are set to begin testing for the 56th annual Daytona 500, which is set for Feb. 23 at Daytona International Speedway.

For the second year in a row, fans will decide upon a number of competition elements for the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona, the 75-lap, non-points race that kicks off the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing season on Saturday, February 15 (8 p.m. ET, FOX Sports 1, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
