NASCAR Cup Series

Trevor Bayne and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane crew showed in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 500 at Talladega Superspeedway that when it comes to restrictor-plate racing they’re among the best in the Sprint Cup Series. Bayne had to start 26th after qualifying was rained out, but once the green flag dropped on Sunday, he and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion were on the march toward the front.

With 15 laps remaining in the 188-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway, Jamie McMurray powered his No. 1 Cessna Chevrolet SS to the front of the pack and held off a charge by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in the No. 88 Mountain Dew/XBox One Chevy SS to win the Camping World RV Sales 500.

Jimmie Johnson leads the most laps and finishes 13th, but that was good enough to regain the points lead from Matt Kenseth. While others tried fading to the back, Johnson tried to stay as close to the front as possible.

Camry driver Kyle Busch (fifth) was the top-finishing Toyota in Sunday afternoon's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Alabama's Talladega Superspeedway.

The Furniture Row Racing driver, who had his colorful Wonder Bread Chevrolet running up front for most of the 188-lap Sprint Cup event, fell back in the closing laps on the 2.66-mile oval.

At the plate tracks to get the right line, it requires a lot of risk and I felt like I was pretty patient all day and I saw the 17 and the 88 coming on the top."

Nationally-known announcer Michael Blair will bring his enthusiasm to the pre-race ceremonies while legendary rock and blues guitarist Gary Hoey will provide a special touch to driver introductions. The North Carolina State University Marching Band, with more than 325 members, will add to the prerace excitement as they play and march around the half-mile oval and perform the National Anthem.

RICKY STENHOUSE JR., No. 17 Nationwide Insurance Ford Fusion – You ran up front, certainly were in position there, had the caution flag not come out perhaps to really make something happen on that last lap. Talk about your run and what you saw the last lap. “Yeah, first off, I thought the racing was great all day. We were two, three, four wide for a long time, and cars seemed to be able to make moves and get some momentum going."

Richard Petty Motorsports driver, Aric Almirola, will start from the pole in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. The qualifying session was rained out due to morning rain showers that moved into the area on Saturday. Almirola commented, “We went into practice with a plan, me and Marcos got a big run on the pack and put up a good lap, we knew there was a small chance of rain today.”

I realize that so many think the #3 should be out on the track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS). I disagree and think the #3 should be retired out of respect to the man that made the number something more than just a number, Dale Earnhardt
