NASCAR Cup Series

When race fans think of Memorial Day weekend in the motorsports world, one thing immediately comes to mind and that is NASCAR taking to the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for their traditional May race weekend that many consider to be the greatest weekend of motorsports all year long with NASCAR at Charlotte, IndyCar at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Formula 1 at Monaco.

NASCAR announced today the inductees who will comprise the 2014 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The five-person group – the fifth in NASCAR Hall of Fame history – consists of Tim Flock, Jack Ingram, Dale Jarrett, Maurice Petty and Fireball Roberts. Next year’s Induction Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, broadcast on Fox Sports 1 from Charlotte, N.C.

Lt. Col. Oliver North (ret.) will receive the Stonewall Jackson Award during Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 pre-race festivities. North will also greet soldiers during a special pre-race luncheon at zMAX Dragway and offer a "State of Freedom" address.

Like nearly everyone in America this week, Eddie Wood and his fellow members of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team have had the weather on their minds, especially after the heart-breaking death and damage that massive tornados caused in Oklahoma on Tuesday.

Edwards enters the Coca-Cola 600 second in the series points’ standings and will return to Charlotte Motor Speedway for his 17th Sprint Cup career start. In his previous starts, Edwards has five top-five and ten top-10 finishes. His average start is 18.2 and average finish is 12.0.

The two-time Nationwide champion earned one of the two transfer spots in the Sprint Showdown to qualify for his first All-Star race last weekend. He finished 16th in the 90-lap showdown.

Biffle has 20 starts in the Cup series at Charlotte, but a win has eluded him. He has finished in the top-five five times and has eight top-10 finishes.

In Our Thoughts: The tornadoes that affected parts of Oklahoma (Monday, May 20), happened just two days shy of the two-year anniversary of the tornado that destroyed much of Jamie McMurray’s hometown of Joplin, MO. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends affected by this tragic event.
