Ryan Newman, Code 3 Associates Chevrolet SS, led all Team Chevy drivers in qualifying at Kansas Speedway on Friday in posting the ninth-fastest lap for Sunday’s STP 400. This is Newman’s third top-10 start of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

The pole was won by Matt Kenseth with a time of 28.145 seconds/191.864 mph around the 1.5 track. The outside front row belongs to Columbia, Missouri native Carl Edwards with a time of 28.162 seconds/191.748 mph. The top-4 qualifiers broke the track record in qualifier.

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DRIVE TO END HUNGER CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Kansas Speedway and discussed the first practice session, the tragedy in Boston and the affect is has had on him and his team and other topics.

Dover International Speedway and FedEx are teaming up to offer fans the chance to bid on a one-of-a-kind race day experience package that includes the opportunity to be on stage during pre-race activities, including driver introductions, for the June 2, 2013 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Monster Mile. The winner will also be on stage with representatives from FedEx to present a sizable donation check to Autism Speaks.

Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion, is a Missouri native who considers Kansas Speedway his home track. A win here would mean everything to Edwards, who spoke with reporters after Friday’s practice session.

Farmland Foods today presented $20,000 to Harvesters-The Community Food Network as part of an expanding effort by the company to raise awareness of hunger issues around the country. The donation is a first step toward Farmland's yearlong goal of raising $100,000 for Harvesters.
