Jimmie Johnson started at the rear of the field after a spin in Coors Light Pole Qualifying required the team to change tires before the green flag. The seven-time champion passed Joey Logano with 17 laps to go to capture his first win of the season, 81st career and his seventh win at Texas Motor Speedway. Johnson led 18 of 334 laps and finished 0.340 seconds ahead of runner-up Kyle Larson.

Jimmie Johnson, seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) champion claimed his 81st career victory in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS by winning the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Starting from the rear of the 40-car field due to a spin during Friday’s qualifying session that required a new set of tires, Johnson continued to charge ahead during the 500-mile race on a new and unfamiliar repaved surface. He led twice for a total of 18 laps during the 334-lap contest.

Toyota driver Martin Truex Jr. (eighth) had the highest-finishing Camry in Sunday afternoon’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Martin Truex Jr. led three times for 49 laps and enjoyed a comfortable lead when he came down pit road for fresh tires and fuel on Lap 273 of 334. But a pit road glitch pretty much doomed Truex’s chances of winning Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
