Memorial Day weekend has many meanings for the American public. The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend is one of auto racing’s greatest days, beginning with the Grand Prix of Monaco, followed by the Indianapolis 500 and then the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

After a near miss of winning last year’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Martin Truex Jr. is braced for another go at NASCAR’s longest race of the season.

In 151 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Richard Childress Racing teams have earned seven points-paying victories (four wins with Dale Earnhardt, one with Jeff Burton and two with Kevin Harvick) and four All-Star race victories (three with Earnhardt and one with Harvick), giving RCR 11 total Sprint Cup Series checkered flags at the Concord, N.C.-based track. RCR boasts 21 top-five and 48 top-10 finishes at the 1.5-mile track.

Stenhouse Jr. has eight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway with an average starting position of 23.6 and average finishing position of 21.

Biffle honored his second cousin, Private Dean VanDyke, whose name was displayed across the windshield of the No. 16 Ford with a second-place finish in the Coca-Cola 600.

Coca-Cola 600 Preview: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the year’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600, on Sunday, May 29, part of a packed Memorial Day Weekend motorsports calendar around the world. Denny Hamlin has five top-five finishes and 13 top-10 results in 21 career races at Charlotte, including a best finish of second in both races at the track in 2012.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series resumes its regular season on Sunday with the annual Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Joey Logano, fresh off his victory in Saturday’s Sprint All-Star Race, will be looking to become the first driver since Kurt Busch in 2010 to win the All-Star Race and 600 in back-to-back weeks. Ironically, Busch was a member of Team Penske when he achieved that feat.

Memorial Day is a special time to come together to give thanks to our military and commemorate our fallen military heroes.

The U.S. Air Force and Richard Petty Motorsports are partnering for NASCAR's 600 Miles of Remembrance program and fallen special tactics combat controller Staff Sgt. Forrest B. Sibley's name will be featured on the windshield header for the weekend.

As part of NASCAR's 600 Miles of Remembrance program, Brian Scott will pay tribute to his friend SPC John Borbonus on the windshield of his No. 44 Twisted Tea Ford Fusion this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Scott will make his second start in the longest mileage race of the season on Sunday, honoring his friend from Boise, Idaho.
