Going back to his roots, Bobby Runyan Jr. took the weekend off from his normal stock car racing to enter a double regional event in the San Francisco SCCA. Runyan Jr. drove one of Porter Racing's Formula Continental's powered by JKB Energy at Thunderhill Raceway in Northern California. Although not unfamiliar with Formula cars, being the 2009 Formula Ford Champion, Runyan Jr. had never driven a winged car. The 2.0 liter powered machine would be his first attempt at such a race car with this much power and the added down force that the front and rear wings would provide.
After a one day delay due to heavy rains the teams finally took the green flag for the Wahta 300 at Barrie Speedway at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon. Dilley driving the PartSource/Gaunt Collision Centres Ford Fusion ran up front all day but a late race driveline failure caused them to finish a disappointing 20th.
A “Speedweek” tests every fiber of a driver, crew and their equipment. With very little time to get from track to track and regroup, a team has to be at full strength to make it through such a stretch. Kraig Kinser just completed the Outlaw California Speedweek with the World of Outlaws, which saw the series race on five consecutive nights.
Normally at NASCAR Canadian Tire Series events we see DJ Kennington piloting the familiar #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. But for round number 10 at Barrie Speedway on Sunday Kennington caught the racing world of guard with an eye catching new look. For this one event Kennington would race the #17 SuperClean Dodge.
